But, alas my tubes were clogged and as we are all aware the internet is not a truck. So as SQLRockstar points out that perhaps the epic fail that occurred with my connection illustrated a valuable lesson to consider when talking about moving you mission critical data to the Clouds.  What happens when for any given reason I (or an entire building/city/state/country/region) can't talk to  the clouds?

The clear solution is to have local servers that can work as fail overs but with SQL Azure not currently supporting mirroring to local databases any sync between local and cloud is DIY.
